Passage 6

In plain words

But to Bharata's mind it seemed harsh. ‘Cruel woman! Is it any wisdom to cut down the tree and plant the branch?’ he said. In the same way you are cutting down what is called Divinity. You are planting the branches called the principle of Prakṛti and showing them off. Do you know how else Bharata reproached Kaikēyī? ‘You have not come to uphold the fame of the Solar dynasty. You are one who came to bring the fame of the Solar dynasty to nothing,’ he said. In just the same way, we come saying, ‘We are devotees, we are devotees.’ If we enquire whether we come to uphold Bhakti and prapatti or for selfish ends and our own benefit, you will find the answer for yourself.

Many changes are taking place in today's system of education. But where are all these changes leading? They are leading to the place where humanness falls. We look upon our whole ancient tradition as a joke. They think our śāstras and our codes of Dharma are tricks devised to deceive innocent people. A great mistake, a great mistake. The ancient traditions, the ancient good customs, all the ancient codes of Dharma came into being for the uplift of man. They came into being to turn humanness into greatness. In today's education, research is growing excessive. They want direct evidence. Everything must be researched. In this, direct perception is the great proof for us. We must not believe at all what does not yield to direct evidence. Blind men are sinking into doctrines of this kind. Foolish beings go on believing just this. The state of things today, the climate of today, is caught up in conditions of this kind. True, direct evidence is essential. But the culture of Bhārata has taught that there must be not only the form but also sādhana for it. That is what the Upaniṣads call ‘Raso vai saḥ’: that without the very nature of rasa, all this is merely insipid. You can see it for yourselves. Today people think direct evidence is Satya above all. There are plastic grapes, there are plastic mangoes, there are plastic bananas. This is direct evidence, isn't it! The form can be seen, can't it! Do you eat them? What is the reason? The shape is there, but its essence is not. Today's experiments are like these plastic fruits. In them the rasa that is the principle of God is missing. Think how foolish they are, when they accept all this as true. Not only this: some things that cannot be seen directly have taken on the form of Satya.
