In plain words
When you tie a rope round the neck of the Kāmadhenu and tie it to a peg, the Kāmadhenu stands still there, never stirring or moving. This Kāmadhenu is God Himself. God, who is like the Kāmadhenu, is the One who grants every wish. When you tie the rope of Prema round His neck and fasten it to the peg that is the tongue, God stays right there. That is why the Name of God is the noose of Prema that binds His form. Unable to recognise this sacred truth of the Name, unable to see the Nāmi (the Nāmi is the form), we are deluded by the physical world alone, we choose that alone, and we cannot cross over. What we must choose is God. What must cross over is the jīva. What we must love is Prema itself. Man today cannot recognise this Satya.
In the truth of the Name of Rāma, this can be likened to the sacred Oṃkāra. Oṃkāra is the divine sound of the Praṇava. Oṃkāra is the joining of the sounds a, u and m. It has been shown that a is Lakṣmaṇa, u is Bharata, m is Śatrughna, and that the Oṃkāra in which these three sounds join is Rāma. Rāma is a Name that belongs to the Ātma alone, not to anything else. The people of Bhārata have always been uttering Ātmārāma. Because it delights, it is called Rāma. In the science of numbers it has a special meaning. Nāma is not two letters. It is three letters. Na, a, ma: nāma. In the science of numbers, na = 0. a = 2, ma = 5. na + a + ma = 0 + 2 + 5 = 7. They regarded this itself as the seven notes. They took this as the basis of the science of music. These are the seven sounds sa, ri, ga, ma, pa, da, ni. On this basis they went on to set up the seven seas, the seven channels, the seven ṛṣis, the seven days, the week, and so on. There is no end to what can be said about the Name of God. The whole world is filled with the Name of God. All of it is a truth whose form is sound. Today we cannot recognise God, whose form is sound. When it comes to uttering the Name of God, we are careless somehow and waste our time. Saṅkīrtana is of the first importance to life. It is the great support of life. As the backbone is the support of our body, so nāda is the support of life. Every sound is joined with the Name of God. Even our breathing in and out is joined with the Name of God. So'haṃ, so'haṃ, so'haṃ: that too is the Name of God. That is the very root and support of Divinity. The whole of human life rests on the sounds of God. But people today follow many kinds of paths and remember God in many ways.
