In plain words

Next, Anurāga Bhakti. The Gopikās. They rode two horses at once. Inside the house, husband and mother-in-law. Outside, Gopāla. Beyond these two they had no other concern at all. Doing their duty, they went on experiencing Divinity. At times they slipped a little in these duties of the world. Saying Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa all the time: such was Anurāga Bhakti. The Gopikās took Him as their friend, their companion, their all-powerful one. Madhura Bhakti belonged to Rādhā alone and to no other. Kṛṣṇa! The moment she thought it, she would forget her own body. She would be lost in the feeling, Kṛṣṇa is the husband, she the wife. She lived in the feeling, Kṛṣṇa is the master, she the servant. The two are one. She lived in this way: He is the Paramātma, I am Prakṛti. She had no other concern. Wherever something blue appeared, even a tree, she would run to it crying Kṛṣṇa and hold the tree. At all times, in every object, she saw nothing but Kṛṣṇa. Always the Name of Kṛṣṇa, always the song of Kṛṣṇa's flute. Before she gave up her life, she longed to hear that very sound of the flute. Do you know what a sacred essence sound is? This sound of the flute is the essence of the Vedas in its fullness. The whole essence of these Vedas is the milk of the cow. She gave up food and drink. Her body became a skeleton. She simply went into the bamboo thickets. She stood still on the bank of the Yamunā. But to save her, in that final state, Kṛṣṇa went there. Rādhā, what do you want? He said, and asked her to speak her last wish. She said, ‘Kṛṣṇa, all this time I have kept You in the lotus of my heart and nourished You. In the pool that is my heart, all the water of Prema has dried up. At the last I kept You in the water of my tears and nourished You. Even the tears have dried up. Where can I keep You and nourish You? So that I may nourish Your Name in sound alone, sing a song, Kṛṣṇa.

Draw out all the essence of the Vedas and turn it into Nāda Brahman, pour it back through the flute and turn it into the form of song; sing a song, Kṛṣṇa, so that honey flows from Your words; speak to me, Mukunda, till my heart is filled...

Saying this, she closed her eyes. The light within her entered Kṛṣṇa. Rādhā showed the inner meaning that Madhura Bhakti means two lives are one. What is the reason for attaining such a state? Steady Bhakti, pure Prema and a selfless heart: these three alone are its root cause.
