In plain words
So we must shape such a man into a good man. Only when man changes will the world change. Only when the individual changes does society change. So the mind of man today must be filled with saṃskāra. We must put this mind through many kinds of training. So all studies exist for the refinement of the mind. How hard you toil to take a B.A. or M.A. degree! You toil so hard only for money earned to fill your belly. To attain God, what toil are you taking on? None at all. God must be caught easily. The foot must not cross the threshold. Not a coin must be spent. The body must not stir. Kaivalya must come and fall into the lap. These are the desires of man today. This is only a sign of laziness. We must make the body work. We must make our time worthwhile. We must do our karma. We must remember the Name of God. We must offer ourselves with complete faith. Only then do we become those who bring fitting peace and security to life and to the nation. First the individual must take shape. Next society must take shape. Third, the nation must take shape. Without the individual, where does society come from? Without society, where is the nation?
So every individual must be refined. We founded this institution only so that such a transformation would come. If such a transformation does not come, what is the use of being here? You must not lead such a life. To be worthy of having come, of having held to Sai Baba, of having joined this Institute, you must go forward as a fulfilled person. When broken-down cars are left in a workshop, in that workshop they put each one right in many ways. Taking out old bolts, putting in new bolts. Taking out old screws, putting in new screws. Taking out old nuts, putting in new nuts. Only when everything in it has been made new like this and it comes out can you say it is a new car, a car that has come from the workshop. If the car comes back in the same state it went in, what is the use of going to the workshop? So you have come and joined this workshop called the Sathya sai Institute. You must push aside everything old and stale in you. New feelings, and a Bhakti and surrender that will stir the world, must grow in you. Only then will your coming here be worthwhile. Otherwise your time is wasted, this money is wasted, this education is wasted. Even humanness does not find its fulfilment; hoping that you will become beings who make life so fulfilled, hoping that you will keep to discipline to the letter, I bring My discourse to a close.
