In plain words
Today desires are growing. Less luggage more comfort make travel a pleasure. It teaches that cutting down desires is itself the best way. In this matter workers are needed. You must do the work. Only then will your worth too rise.
You all know that at first the Japanese made ties with America in every way. They learnt everything from the Americans themselves. Today they have gone beyond the Americans. America is weeping. My own disciples have turned into my rivals! What is the reason? The Americans have Ahaṅkāra; these people have humility. When this humility comes, they concentrate on the work. Not only that: the spirit of work. If they take up any work, they will not go home till that work is finished, even if it is seven at night. Our people are not like that. Even if a quarter of the work is still left, at 4.30 they drop it wherever it is and go off home. The managers come up: What is this, my boy? The bell has gone. "No, sir. It is my duty," they say. They keep doing their duty. Only when they have finished it do they have self satisfaction. That is contentment. So you need self satisfaction. They call it confidence. They call it Ātma-tṛpti. Where has this confidence come from? This confidence has come from consciousness. The conscience is within you. Consciousness is every where. It is everywhere. You have taken into yourself, to some extent, this consciousness that is everywhere. You must make this conscience that you have taken into yourself one with the consciousness that is everywhere. What must you do to make it one in this way? For sports people blow up balloons. We blew one up and tied it tight. But the air that is everywhere is in this balloon. But the air in this balloon cannot join the air that is everywhere. It stays apart. The air that is everywhere and moves about freely is consciousness. The air tied up in this balloon is conscience. When does this conscience join consciousness? As you blow and blow and blow this balloon, all at once it bursts. The moment it bursts, the air in this balloon too merges into the air that is everywhere. So if you go on widening and widening the heart that is in this balloon, in the end separateness goes and oneness comes about. So the conscience in you must join this consciousness. This too has three levels. Conscious, conscience, consciousness. Conscious is through senses. Conscience is through heart.
