In plain words
So from these senses you must go to the heart. Now if you make your heart big, it becomes a disease. They call it heart enlargement. That is not it. Not the physical heart. The spiritual heart. If you want to widen this spiritual heart, you must come to the oneness that all is one. Hunger is one and the same for me and for you. For my hunger I may eat two chapatis. For your hunger you may eat six idlis. Another may eat half a kilo of rice for his hunger. "The food differs; the hunger is one." So it is said. We must take up the equality that is in all. The persons may be different. Pain or pleasure, it is the same for all. One may not be able to control himself. Another may control himself. That depends on each one's will power. But pain and pleasure are one. Yet there can be no pleasure without pain, nor pain without pleasure. These two are bound to each other. A small example of this. In the shade itself there is sunshine. In the sunshine itself there is shade. You cannot help but accept this. The sun fell upon a tree. In that tree's shade there is shade over one stretch. Over another stretch there is sunshine. What is the cause of this shade? The very sunshine above is the cause. What makes you know that there is sunshine there? The shade beside it is the cause. So the shadow makes the sunshine known. Sunshine and shade are bound to each other. In the same way, for us pain and pleasure are both bound together. In pain there is pleasure. In pleasure there is pain. But without pain pleasure does not come.
A small example of this. You have a pain in your stomach. The moment the doctor comes he says you must have an operation. He takes a knife. He slits your stomach as one slits a cucumber. But by that cutting your pain is cured. Here you must recognise this well. If the pain that arose is to go, you must bear the pain that is given. Your stomach-ache is the pain that arose. What the doctor cut is the pain that was given. Only if you bear the pain the doctor gives is the pain that arose in you cured. That is why the two are bound closely to each other. So in the management of business too we must keep planning such things well. For all this planning there is the one Ātma-tattva, Awareness of atma; it is enough if we recognise this well. How did our forefathers live this out! How many sufferings they went through! How much Hariścandra suffered for Satya! In the end he sold even his wife and child. He lived on as a keeper of the burning ground. One day he was working as keeper of the burning ground. A millionaire had died. Millionaire or not, will they keep him in the house? They cannot, once he is dead.
