In plain words
Whoever has more books in his bedroom, you will find that his sense has dwindled and his disease is more. But the student must read. You have come here to study. So, master not in the spiritual alone but in everything. That is divinity. You must recognise the chief life-giving principles in it too. I told you before. That wire called a jet inside this carburettor. Swami has never seen it. They use it for the petrol to pass. It is very important. You should know every matter, about a car or about anything else. So you must take proper care not only in this spiritual matter but in general matters too.
Students! The rules in our Institute are meant for a result; they were not made to no purpose. For those who keep them well, their worth will become known to you in the future. If you give them up for your own passing comfort, you will have to suffer a great deal in the future. In the hostel, in the Mandir or anywhere else, keep up your discipline well. Without discipline, humanness itself withers away. So if you keep the discipline even with pain, you will enjoy great comfort afterwards. At first, when the mother feeds the child, he keeps spitting it all out. But the mother does not give up. She feeds him even by force. Afterwards he gulps down mouthful after mouthful. If you do not give him that very practice, how will he be able to look after his life? So, even if it pains you, if you tell yourself firmly, "I must go to the Suprabhātam without fail, I must go to the Oṃkāra without fail, I must go to the bhajan without fail," you will enjoy Ānanda in the future. Otherwise your whole life will go by as the life of a he-buffalo. There will simply be no humanness there. You know what a he-buffalo is, do you not! However much rain is pouring down, it does not even twitch its tail. So insensitive. It is. But if it is a cow, it runs off at once. So you must live as holy cows, not as he-buffaloes.
For three days now I have been taking only a cup of butter milk. Some troubles keep coming to the body. They keep going. Because of that Karunyananda said I should not go. Not to go would not be right. I gave My word to the children. They would be very hurt. They keep to Swami's vows and works without the least deviation. Before Swami set out, Radhakrishna gave Me butter milk. Whether those who study in Swami's College keep it or not, you must try to keep the word you have given; that is what you must learn first of all.
