Passage 9

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

An ideal is lasting. Through such a noble ideal they can go far ahead in the days to come. Rather than roam for ages as a crow, be a swan and play for a moment. It is enough if we live even ten years as exemplary students. So, to live an exemplary life, love of the country and self-respect are most essential. What every single person who is born recognises first of all is his mother and his father. There is no person in this world who does not know his mother and his father. Only he who has recognised love of the country and self-respect has truly recognised his mother and father. What is my country like? How sacred a country! How divine a country! What an exemplary country! How full of Prema a country! How vast a country! Students must first of all recognise the greatness of our country. You believe the land of Bhārata to be some land of rubbish, and you set out for foreign countries. What is not in the land of Bhārata is not in any country at all.

The divine culture of Bhārata, so full of noble thought: to know its principle the people of Bhārata have failed even to try. What misfortune can be greater than this?

Born in the land of Bhārata, such a land of karma, a land of yoga, a land of sacrifice, you, the young men, unable even to try to recognise the very culture of Bhārata, have been falling into this sad plight. You must recognise such a distinguished culture. You must inquire into it. The root cause of this is that there are no elders, no pandits and no parents to teach it.

Students, young men and young women! All these fifteen days, we must make the effort to bring the two together, the sacred culture and modern life, and to spend our life within the path of justice, not leaving the path of Satya, not giving up the path of Dharma. Power is not what matters most for us. Powers are only passing clouds. There is no need to be proud for its sake.

Do not be proud of wealth, of people, or of youth; Time takes away all of them in a moment.

In a man, this youth is just what comes in a moment and goes in a moment.
