In plain words
Just as the thread runs through the midst of the gems, so the thread called God is joined as one in the midst of men. If one is born, one must be born in Bhārata. If one dies, one must die in Bhārata itself. There is no other land so sacred,’ he said. As for this Bhārata, once so sacred: if we look into it today, foreigners seem far greater than we are. Renouncing every attachment, they come running.
Bodily Pleasures and Displays Are Fleeting!
Base bodily displays are fleeting! What is the pleasure of this body? What is the joy of this body? There is joy in nothing. That is why Śaṅkara said in those days:
Do not be proud of wealth, of people, of youth; time takes all away in a moment; giving up all this, which is made of Māyā,
All these pleasures pass in a moment. Not for even a minute is happiness with us. Like a white flash amid black clouds, that pleasure passes at one stroke. The light flashed, but right behind it came a great darkness. We do not take note of this darkness. We take note of the light alone and rejoice. ‘Ahead of you, and soon, lies the crocodiles' feast called old age.’ Then your own children will make fun of you:
You cannot move about; dimness in the eyes; on your face wrinkles have formed, the head has turned grey; calling you an old monkey, the little ones snigger at you, and you snap at them, puppet! Tai tai.
