In plain words
Only then does the name kṣetra hold good for it. If instead you think of it as 'a kṣetra, a kṣetra', when it follows a path against the kṣetra, it cannot be a kṣetra. So food is most necessary for the right use of this body.
Now conduct. To what kind of places should we go? You must inquire in what kind of atmosphere we should live. With what kind of people should we build up ties and bonds? We must keep far from bad company. We must keep the friendship of the wicked far away. The reason is this: whatever company we keep, such feelings rise in us. That is why, Tell me your company I shall tell you what you are. Whatever company you keep, you become that kind of person. So you must keep bad company far away. You must put it to good use only in fitting practice. But for the young people of today bad company is very much to their taste. Entering into bad deeds is very easy. They carry on bad ways very easily. This is not the right value for the human body. Even after taking up a human birth so hard to win, for us to take such a bad path is a loss to humanness itself that can never be made good. That is why all the holy ṛṣis, to do good deeds with this body, to think of God, went into solitude and practised tapas there. But in My view even that is just a weakness. A small example. You have resolved to conquer anger. When you have resolved to conquer this anger, however many years you sit in the forest and do tapas, you cannot conquer this anger. We must inquire what the cause of this anger is. In what place does anger rise in you? Anger rises only among crowds of people. So you must try to curb that anger while staying in the very midst of people; if you go into a forest where there is no crowd at all and think you have curbed anger, it will only be an illusion. While you remain in the forest you may stay calm, but as soon as you come back into the village, 'it is certain, Sumati', it enters.
