Arjuna! I am the Ātma. I alone am the One present in all beings. The beginning, the middle and the end too, I alone am. All that appears in this world of the moving and the unmoving is the Ātma principle itself. In the spiritual field, at every step, what is heard is the Ātma itself. What is seen is the Ātma itself. What is felt is the Ātma itself. What carries one beyond oneself is the Ātma itself. In the world there is nothing other than the Ātma.

What man must achieve today is steadfastness in the Ātma. Union with one's own true nature is itself steadfastness in the Ātma. To recognise oneself is itself Ātma-jñāna. In our humanness, what we must achieve first of all is the bliss of the Ātma. What we must keep in remembrance at all times is the Ātma principle. The Ātma itself is called awareness. This very awareness brings forth, in all beings, the stirring 'I, I'. This power of stirring is itself Aham. When this Aham becomes one with the body, it takes shape as Ahaṅkāra. This is the false 'I'. It is not the true 'I'. But Manas stands in the way of this Ātma at every moment. Just as the clouds born of the sun through its own heat hide the sun, in just the same way Manas, born of the Ātma, and the clouds that gather as Manas, stand in the way. As long as Manas is there, man cannot understand the Ātma principle, or Ātma-jñāna, or the matter of the Ātma. Realisation is said to belong only to the one who has the state of recognising the Ātma at all times and in all conditions.
