In plain words
That is Bhakti. Bhakti is not merely doing japa, doing dhyāna, doing pūjā, going on pilgrimages, or performing any other kind of good deeds. All these are signs we experience under the name of Bhakti. Marks. To make the Manas take its seat on union with one's own svarūpa is true Bhakti. This is true steadfastness in the Ātma. So Jñāna and Bhakti are not different. Bhakti itself is Jñāna. Jñāna itself is Bhakti. The two are inseparably bound to each other, each resting on the other. The chief thread that ties these two together is Prema. With that very thread of Prema we can bind God. That is, Prema is not something separate. Prema itself is God. God itself is Prema. The Prema that arises in the body is gone in a moment. The Prema that arises in delusions is gone in a moment. All these are passing kinds of Prema. Divine Prema is eternal. That is why Love is God. Live in Love. You must live in that alone.
However many troubles come, however many physical tangles come, all these are passing clouds. We need not fret over these passing clouds. We must make the proper inquiry to attain the Ātma-principle, which is Satya and eternal. So one must uplift oneself. Many people in the world, acquainted with these books, with somewhat orthodox customs, fall prey to certain fears and delusions. They think, "Only these sons will uplift us." For the sons go on offering them śrāddhas and piṇḍas for the departed. Their delusion is that through the sons they will be uplifted. Are there not any number of people in the world who have sons? Are all their sons uplifting them? Are there not any number of people who have no sons? Are all of them going down to a low fate?
The foolish weep, saying no sons are born to them, deluded about life. Were not sons born, many, to the Kaurava kings? What fate did they gain through them? Did ill fates grow for Śuka, who had no sons?
No. No. What uplifts us is not something apart. We do not even recognise the meaning of these customs we perform. Only when we recognise the true meaning can we experience the eternal principle.
