Passage 1

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Glittering on the lotus leaf, unsteady as a drop of water, life is a house of layers of attachment, man; the world is a curtain of worry and sorrow, man. Hari Govinda, Hari Govinda, say Hari Govinda, you dullard!

Students!

What spirituality is, what individual freedom is: to recognise the real svarūpa of these two is not possible for ordinary people. We must not think that spirituality means only living alone, or a solitary life. To sow the seeds of Prema in the midst of all human life, to make the flowers of light blossom, and to give pure Prema to the people: that alone is the inner meaning of spirituality. When we inquire into the divinity that is special in it, there are not two here, spirituality on one side and individual freedom on the other. In the debate held so far, they did not recognise what the heart is, nor act on it. They thought that freedom is declaring one's own feelings on the platform. Freedom is something no one in this world has. But in politics a name came into being, "freedom". What is this freedom? To send the foreigners away from their rule and accept the rule of one's own people: that is what they took freedom to be. This is not individual freedom. It is not fundamental freedom. They are only certain acts carried out to display the nature of Ahaṅkāra. After the foreigners left, we thought that our own people had gained freedom. In what did we gain freedom? Merely saying "freedom, freedom" brings no benefit at all.

Only when unity is achieved does freedom become of use. If, without achieving unity, we think freedom is freedom, that is only the freedom of a word, not true freedom.
