In plain words
Or one may answer that. One may say, "I am so-and-so, Rāmayya"; when one says, "I am Rāmayya", Rāmayya is the name of the body. Who is this "I"? Rāmayya has an "I" that is something apart, has he not? We must recognise that "I" principle alone. That "I" is the heart. The "I" is the Ātma. The "I" is Brahman.
This heart is everywhere. A small example. A painter painted a dancer beautifully on a sheet of paper. Here a leg is bent, an arm is bent. A finger is bent. He painted her as though dancing in many ways; she seemed to have turned her head. She seemed to have bent her leg. She seemed to have bent her arm. She seemed to have bent her finger. That picture appeared with every curve, with every rise and fall. To the eye it looks raised and lowered, but if we feel that paper with our hand there is no rise or fall at all. In some pictures even mountains appear like this, high, falling away, low. But if we touch the paper, there is no high or low in it at all. In the same way, though in this heart, in what we call this world, such differences appear to us, high and low, good and bad, sin and merit, Satya and Asatya, sorrow and happiness, at the level of the heart no differences at all appear in it. It has no beginning and no end; though it appears in the middle, that too is something that does not exist. We say, "This is a tumbler." It has a form, and it has a name. This is the form; "tumbler" is the name. If we take away this form and name, what remains? Only silver. Before this became a tumbler, it was silver. While it is a tumbler, it is silver. When we break it up and make it into a lump, it is silver. At the beginning and at the end it remains silver. This form is only what came in the middle. That is why it came to be called the unreal world. In the world, ekaṃ sat. What is, is one. Only when there is a second does such a thing as freedom or bondage appear, does it not? This bondage and this freedom are creations of Manas.
Students! Only when there is no sun do we give the moon any value. When the sun is there, no one looks at the moon. Well, when we give the moon value in the sun's absence, through what do we give it value? The moon does not shine of itself.
