In plain words
Right observances are dwindling. That is why joy is coming to nothing. So each and every student must become a dānta. In today's student, even before his studies, show and Ahaṅkāra spread through the whole body, from toenail to crown, and parade about like conquerors. Students do not know at all what the heart is. How to speak with elders, how to show humility before elders, how to behave: even this the students of today do not know. Elders who would tell them are few as well. This is not the students' fault. It is because parents and teachers cannot give them the encouragement and support it needs that the students' state is sinking like this. So students must keep their conduct in the right state, master their senses, and in that way foster calm within society. Children today have a great taste for petty, rowdy talk alone. That is their craze, their pose. Good words they cannot stand at all. Spirituality they think laughable. Because students build up this kind of atmosphere day after day, they are unable to recognise the true way of learning. So students must put away this ill notion that learning is only for jobs, only for earning money. We must never forget that learning is meant solely for the supreme goal of life. For a livelihood we must certainly take up jobs, but in that job too, without letting go of morality and integrity, we must uphold those jobs and show them to be an example. Today it has come to be seen as though we study in order to cheat the world, to grab bribes, to enter into injustice, Asatya and wrongdoing. Our studies did not come into being for this. Learning is for the sake of Jñāna. Without nourishing Jñāna in this way, we keep the nourishing of wealth alone as our chief aim, and that is why the values of learning are steadily coming to nothing. Neither wealth nor learning is bad. Its honour and worth remain within the way we make use of it.
Students! However much air we breathe in, that much air we cannot help letting out. If we do not let it out, our lungs are harmed. So we must certainly earn money.
