Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The flowers are separate, but the thread is one. This flower was a bud yesterday. Today it opens. Tomorrow it withers. But the thread is thread yesterday, thread today, thread tomorrow. What does Brahmasūtra mean? In the flowers that are all mankind, the thread that is God runs through. It is something that knows no destruction.

'Nirguṇaṃ sanātanaṃ nikētanaṃ nityaśuddha buddha mukta nirmala svarūpiṇāṃ'. Keeping such divinity in our very hearts, we grow agitated only over outward things. We fall prey to anger and dejection. No, no. All these are passing. They are like clouds that come and go. We must pay this no heed at all. When all the people live in unity, unity itself is our life. It is only by losing this unity that we fall prey today to so many troubles. Embodiments of Prema! We must foster unity with one another. Even if there are personal hatreds, we must develop the common life of the land of Bhārata and earn the meaningful name of sons of Bhārata. Only then will a divinity that is oneness arise in all, the government and the people alike. The people are not separate. The government is not separate. The people's government alone is the government. The government's people alone are the people. In this way there must be a close bond. We must never give room to the feeling of difference that the people are one thing and the government another. The government does a great deal. They too have many hindrances and many restrictions. There are rules and regulations. But to want it the very moment …, that is not possible. We too must think it over. Everything must be given its time. Only when time, action, cause and duty come together is our task fulfilled. We must not be in a hurry over everything. We must achieve it peacefully. We must give no opening to riots or to hatreds, to quarrels or to upheavals. It is only because this kind of agitation is growing among the people that our country is sinking into this sorry state. This agitation among the people must not …. Whoever it may be, problems must be solved peacefully; agitation brings no remedy at all. Even if it brings a remedy, it may be a remedy for the time being, but it can never be a lasting remedy. So only when we keep up good relations with the government, peacefully, and contend with it in the right way will this stay with us as lasting happiness.

Embodiments of Prema! … has no wish to take up much time and put you to great strain. But what is the reason that today, in this little village of Puttaparthi, such developments have come about?
