Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The life of students must blossom and be shown to the world in its radiance. Education means radiance itself. It is to give this radiance to the world that you must become students. Students must enjoy the joy of learning, not strive for the joy of sense objects. The student is a master. What does master mean? The one who keeps the senses under control, he alone is a master. After you become a householder you become a mister. Mister means one who is subject to the senses. The one who has mastered the senses, he alone is a master. So, first of all, the student must try to keep these senses under control. Man may become a great Vedāntin. Man may simply carry out a great many researches. He may put forward great theories. But he must try to recognise for himself what value he has earned as a man. Without human values, however many researches he makes and however many theories he holds, they are of no use.

The system of education today, not only in Bhārata but in all countries too, has taken on a deformed shape. If we ask ourselves who is the cause of this, there is no single one. Here. Parents are not able to set the students on the right path. The leaders of the country are not able to give them the right ideal. The teachers, too, are not able to give them the right teaching. When there are ideal parents, ideal teachers and ideal leaders, the student will stay a student. But into the hearts of students, who are steady, selfless and pure by nature, they pour unrest, anguish and agitation, draw them into these politics and pollute the hearts of the students. So students must not enter into these politics at all. After you have finished your studies, once you have taken up some job or some other kind of work, there is no harm if you enter politics. For the welfare of the country, for the security of the country, for the good of the country, enter politics and step onto the right path. Today's students lack the strength and the ability to recognise for themselves what is good and what is bad. When those in authority look, they think the system of education is growing. They are founding educational institutions in great numbers. The students appear to go to the schools and colleges. But nobody is noticing whether or not they are receiving education.
