In plain words
In this system of education it is not enough merely to develop educational institutions. We must look at the quality of this education. We must raise the standard. What is the reason this standard has fallen so low? There are many reasons for it.
Only when education is set up as a separate body can we develop strength and ability of this kind. When the ministers of education change, whether in the state or at the centre, this system of education changes. Because it changes moment by moment like this, the system of education is simply collapsing. Ministers may change and persons may change, but education must stand in its own true form. So it is most urgent to set education up as a separate body and to appoint a centre for it, made up of those with great experience and those who are greatly learned.
Otherwise, however many educational institutions you found, it is only an expense of money, and they will gain no fruit from it at all.
The way of noticing the good has sunk out of sight; nowhere does morality find any shade to stand in; this is the progress in education today. morality and discipline have stayed behind in the books; the whole heart has become a house of impurity; all deeds have become deeds of selfishness; this is the progress in learning today. It does harm to the one who did it good; it pulls down the one who fed it; it mocks the very one who taught it; this is the progress in learning today.
What is this progress of education? Nobody is even trying to find out what this progress means. They are spending crores upon crores of money. But we are not able to obtain a result worthy of that money, so how will the country prosper? Everything, all of it, depends on the future of the students. Education is not confined to a school alone.
