In plain words
Students! If the treasure of sacred character itself is lacking in humanness, all learning is useless.
Are all who have learnt to read and write educated? Are those who have gained college degrees educated? Is learning without true Jñāna and good deeds true learning? If learning is only for making a living, do not the beasts and birds make a living too?
No. No. Education nourishes the personality, makes divinity blossom and makes humanness shine. All of today's worldly learning takes worldly living alone as its basis; but however much joy it may give to worldly life, we must also seek an ideal for the divine life that comes after.
There are two chief qualities in education. One is to explain the subject and teach it. The second is to make the personality of life blossom. One is matter, the second is energy. Education is the very form of matter and energy combined. Education is the very form of the spiritual and the worldly combined. Merely giving to the head alone is not education. It must teach the principle of Prema, which moves the heart and melts it. It is not enough merely to make man a man. We must shape him into an ideal man. We must shape him into a compassionate man. We must make a fitting effort, through education, to make the personality within humanness blossom and to bring it out. Man must stand firm as nothing but a seeker of Satya. The student must make the Satya he longs for shine in his future life in society. Citizens may respond to the problems of students, but students must not respond to the problems of citizens. Students must try to wish for the prosperity of the country, the welfare of the country and the happiness of the country.
Selflessness, simplicity, freedom from Ahaṅkāra and Prema: the very form of these four is the form of the student.
