In plain words
Service is essential. We must bring no feeling of difference into this service. When we wish only for the progress of society, we must sacrifice our doership and our sense of 'mine'. Such tyāga alone is the right path for life; that is why the Veda too says, "Na karmaṇā na prajayā dhanena tyāgenaike amṛtatvamānasu": immortality comes to us only through tyāga, and we cannot gain immortality through selfishness. The army of Sai must take it up to spread this equality through the world.
Today people of so many religions have gathered in Praśānti Nilayam. People of so many languages have gathered. People of so many traditions have come together. But the tradition of all, the aim of all, the ideal of all in this Praśānti Nilayam is one and the same. That is precisely the principle of Prema. People of many countries celebrate this festival called Christmas in many forms, with joy and delight of many kinds, and with pomp. But one thing all must recognise. The Christmas festival held in Praśānti Nilayam alone is held nowhere else in the world. Nowhere at all do people of so many religions, so many languages and so many traditions gather in one place and make it worthwhile with divine feeling, in the contemplation of God, through sacred deeds. We must proclaim this very tradition to the whole world. They celebrate it in America, in Germany, in Japan, in Italy. They celebrate it everywhere, but if you ask what they celebrate at this Christmas festival: having dinners, drinking hard, dancing, wasting time. Here too you are drinking. What are you drinking? You are drinking sacred Prema. You must give this Prema to the whole world to drink. You must not follow religious sects of any kind. We must find Ānanda in spreading and teaching the words they taught. Merely teaching them is not enough. You must experience them, delight in them and offer them to others. Bhakti and surrender are essential for every human being. Without Bhakti, life itself is wasted. Is not the life of a man who cannot give due thanks to the Creator wasted?
Should we not offer even a little gratitude to God, who has given so many comforts, such conveniences, and the five elements of so many kinds for man's nourishment? For man, gratitude itself is the chief life-breath. Every human being must show gratitude to God. The elders who founded religions also lived this path of Satya and went on teaching many ideals. You must practise the true sayings the founders of religions taught as though you had pressed them to your heart.
