Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

In the same way, He gave eyes only to see God. He gave ears only to hear good things. He gave a mouth only to remember God. It is said, “samyak kīrtanaṃ iti saṅkīrtanam”. What is saṅkīrtana? It is to open the heart and sing the name of God freely, with a full and eager mouth, without holding back in the least the voice within us. We must not hold back the voice we have when we sing. Sing freely, as your voice is, without worrying that it will go off key. People look at feeling, melody and rhythm, but God looks at the heart. So He looks only at the heart you sing with, whatever heart it is. The heart is Quality; melody, rhythm and feeling are Quantity. So we must increase the Quality.

Do not believe the evil propaganda of the wicked

Today I want to warn you about another matter: “Sai's nature has never been to cause any harm, any hurt or any kind of suffering to anyone.” Some people from abroad and some from this country say that Swami has said this and Swami has said that, that the world will sink in some time, that great calamities will come and the country will fall into many troubles; and saying that Swami said so, they print pamphlets and hand them out. Such feelings and such resolves will never come into Sai, will not come, cannot come. These are things made up by people who have nothing to do. Never believe them. In the same way, these wicked people have printed some 90 Points, saying that in some time the whole country will sink and that twelve students will be sent to set it right, and they are handing them out to everyone. Even devotees have come to believe it. No one should believe such things. Needlessly, passing it from one mouth to another, they Propagate it this way. We should not listen to such things that we do not like. Listening to them, or talking about them with someone else, can only be the effect of their own Weakness.

Who are enemies? Who are friends?

No trouble lies ahead for the world. No troubles will come; none are coming. In so vast a world such things keep happening now and then. The quarrels of Iraq and Iran have gone on for ten years. We must not believe it to be a great war. In our own Bhārata, in the Punjab, things go on like this as well. Is that a great war? It is only personal faults that have taken this kind of path. For Bhārata or for any other country, the bombs that protect and keep it are our own good feelings. If we have good feelings, everything is protected. Who, truly, are enemies, and who are friends? Our sins are our enemies, our merits are our friends. These sins and merits follow us always like a shadow. So we have no enemies in any country. Our own feelings are our enemies. We must purify our feelings and offer a right life, an exemplary life.
