In plain words
On one side, science is growing far and wide. On the other, in the moral, the dharmic and the spiritual, humanness is declining terribly.
What does the country need most today? It needs boys and girls with pure hearts. It needs people with selfless hearts. It needs people who will offer their lives to the country. But unfortunately man today thinks he will enjoy happiness and peace through money, gold, goods and vehicles. He is deluded. In truth there is no happiness or peace at all in money, gold, goods and vehicles. Even if something seems like happiness, they may give a passing happiness, but true happiness is not found in outer circumstances or in outer things. Chatrapati Śivājī had no lack of money, gold, goods or vehicles. Yet what is the inner meaning of his taking refuge with Samartha Rāmadās? Janaka had no lack of money, gold, goods or vehicles. Yet what is the inner meaning of his taking refuge with Yājñavalkya? In the same way, from ancient times in Bhārata, the great kings all took refuge with the great ascetics and, through them, were able to receive peace and security. The Śānti that matters most to man is found only in the knowledge of the Ātma; by no other path is it to be had at all.
It is most necessary that students recognise why man's mind today has declined so terribly in morality and Dharma. Through education without character, through physical science without humanness, through business without honesty, and through political schemes without truth, the world has been falling into many kinds of trouble. Students must restore the divinity that has dwindled in the humanness of today. National feeling must be developed in students. Education today only sharpens the intellect. It does not develop character at all. They are able to turn the student's head into a book, but they do not foster human values at all in the students' daily lives. There is no gain at all in turning the book into the head, or in turning the head into a book. We must recognise the path of Satya in daily life and put it into practice as we should.
