In plain words

How are we to develop this humanness?

Through ignorance that has no fear of sin, and through that which has no love of God, humanness has sunk in human beings. This is the upheaval that shakes the peace of the world.

So for man today: fear of sin, love of God, morality in society. These three above all we must try to hold firm in the heart. These give every man not only love of his region but love of his country too, and they offer the country an ideal for human life itself.

Education today only sharpens the intellect; it does not foster even a little good character. If you have a crore of learning and no good character, what is its fruit, and what is its worth?

So what matters most for man today is human values. That is: The proper study of mankind is man. Thoughts, words and action. The unity of these three is most necessary. In man today all three are experienced as separate. The world gains nothing at all from a man who is man in shape alone. What is needed most today is men who are human in practice. Today scientists and politicians preach to children in many ways. But preaching is not what matters. Who is needed today? Writings on walls, cries raised on platforms, writings given to the papers: these are not what the world needs. It needs leaders with morality and honesty. Teaching must be given in the form of practice alone. Teaching and propagation in the form of practice is what is needed today.

Human life today is full of excessive spending. Today science and technology have grown far and wide. Through them the problems of today will not be solved for us at all. If man's problems are to be solved, they must be solved through man himself. These problems must be solved through man's own conduct. Man must live as man. But man today is trying to live like a demon, like a beast. No. No. We must develop humanness as humanness.
