Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

That is why he cannot recognise his own value. As for man's value: if someone dies in an accident, the government gives him five thousand rupees. Is his value five thousand rupees? Is a man's life worth only this much? That is not its value. It has no price at all; whatever value you give it, it is not enough. For the value of such a priceless, sacred man, we are bringing the value down. At times we bring home a very secure iron safe and keep it in the house. That iron safe costs little. But the value of the jewels put in the iron safe is very great.

This body is a valueless iron safe; as jewels are placed in a safe, the divine God dwells in the body, know it well.

In this iron safe called the body is a great, precious jewel called God. We must give value to that, not to the iron safe. That is what deserves value. If we put precious jewels in a precious box, neither keeps its value: thieves will carry them off. So we must put the precious wealth called good qualities in the valueless iron safe. That itself is the secret of creation.

The body is impermanent. The Ātma is Satya. The Ātma, which is Satya, dwells hidden in the body, which is merely impermanent and passing. For its sake we must protect the body. We must not neglect the body. For how long? We must nourish the body until we recognise the truth. We must take good care of the body. But to forget the one who dwells in the body, taking the body to be the main thing, is not the meaning of true humanness. When Ahaṅkāra enters us, everything stays hidden from us. When thick clouds come in front of the shining sun, we cannot see even the sun. Just because the sun has gone out of our sight, is there no sun? He is there. But he is out of our sight only because the clouds have come in the way. But are the clouds permanent? No. No. They are clouds that move away. The very moment the clouds move away, the sun shines. Because the thick clouds called Ahaṅkāra and the sense of possession wrap round our humanness, the Ātma principle is not understood.
