Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Well, if it is the one that tells, go to that computer and ask, 'When shall I die?': will it tell you? It does not know the answer. What is the reason: not even the one who built it knows the answer, so it does not know either. The scientist puts into the computer only what he knows. It is the image; he is the original. Man does not trust himself, but trusts the image that came through him.

Students! Self confidence is very necessary. Build up your self-confidence still further. There is nothing whatever beyond this Ātma. The form in which speech, Manas and prāṇa, the three, are mingled is the Ātma. Among the principles of these three, prāṇa is very important. Prāṇa has no end. The body that has prāṇa has an end, but prāṇa has no end. It is reflected in all jīvas as a thing is reflected in a mirror. If there is only one alone, it is not enough. From these three, Manas, speech and prāṇa, alone, a fourth called the Ātma comes into being. You all know. In chemistry, when many kinds of chemicals are mixed, another kind of result comes. In just the same way, how is the nut of tāmbūla? It is brown. How are betel leaves? They are green. Lime is white. When these three come together, red colour comes. In the same way, when man's Manas, word and prāṇa, these three, come together, that very thing takes on the form of the Ātma. That itself is the true mankind. Through the oneness of these three alone we must make our life fulfilled. Every one of them is in man's heart alone, not in the outer world. On this very basis they called the one who is in the state of suṣupti Hiraṇyagarbhāya namaḥ. In that alone is boundless Ānanda. Take a small example. If we get copper, we are not pleased. If we get this much brass, we are not pleased. But if we get gold, we are very pleased. This gold delights the heart. This gold: what is it? It is just earth. Earth is to be had wherever you look, so we use it as something very cheap. Gold is found somewhere in that earth, so we give it a special value.
