Passage 9

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

If gold were found everywhere, they would not value it either. In our body there are bones, blood, flesh and muscles everywhere. Nobody gives them any value. But the heart they take as that very golden value. So Hiraṇyagarbha means the heart itself: the heart that bestows value on humanness, that bestows radiance on humanness, that bestows an ideal on humanness, in which humanness itself bestows humanness.

Students! Because you do not grasp the meaning of this Praśnopaniṣad, I am giving you a great deal of trouble. With today let us leave the Praśnopaniṣad, and from now on use these remaining days on the matters man most needs in daily life. These Upaniṣads are not understood even by great Vedāntins and pandits. To ordinary children, to those who study a few English words, this is still less understood. They give value to the English language but give no value to the language of the Ātma. At such a time, even when something so valuable is told, it is impossible for you to take its right meaning. If you teach a tenth-class book to a first-class boy, what will he understand. So, that class: when classes belonging to that class are taken right here for all of you, it easily touches your heart. So from tomorrow it is most necessary to consider the Vijñāna that matters most to man, the path of karma, the path of Dharma to be lived in daily life, the principles of duty, and the meanings within worldly life. In keeping with the influence of the conditions of place and time, it is very important to teach students the moral, the physical and the dhārmic. As this science grows, moral value is sliding down day by day. When man has no values at all, what then is the use of science advancing? How is today's education? Progress. Progress. They keep on growing.

Ethics and rules stay stuck in the books, the whole heart has become foul-smelling and soiled, every deed has become a deed of selfishness: this is progress in today's education.
