In plain words
So we must develop the good too through practice alone. That is why:
Jñāna is better than practice; dhyāna is higher than Jñāna; from dhyāna comes giving up the fruit of action; from giving up, Śānti at once.
Practice is most needed for everything. If a newborn child is to walk, it must practise. If a newborn child, after some time, is to eat, it must practise. If a newborn child is to speak, it must practise. Walking, talking, writing, reading, all these come by practice alone. So without practice we cannot achieve anything. So only when we follow the matter of these Upaniṣads in the form of practice can we behold their sacred form.
Brahmānanda is not something brought from anywhere. Contemplation of one's own true form is itself Brahmānanda. Recognising the truth of who one is, that itself is Brahmānanda. Man turns all his sight to this: that there is some object other than himself, and that only when he gains that object can he be happy; this very delusion becomes the root cause of attachment. From this attachment fear arises. How does fear come? Will I get what I wished for or not; even if I get it, can I keep it up or not; can I hold on to it or not: there fear begins. Anger is the very distortion of fear. So attachment, fear and anger arise one from another. Without attachment itself we would not have this disease called anger and fear; so all of them begin from attachment alone. What is this attachment? It is desire. The desires of today go beyond all limits. It is through these limitless desires that man's state slips from its course. How should he live? He even forgets the true form, "Who am I". He forgets the divine principle, "I am a man", and turns into a demon. Because he forgets humanness, he forgets the help that was done him. When this helping is gone, he does harm. So first of all he must surely try to recognise his own humanness. For this, human values are most needed. Because human values are lost today, so many cruel deeds and terrible acts keep happening in this world. He is turning into nothing but a demon.
