He was one of your own age. He was a student himself. The gurus who taught him were good men. But through the father's evil counsel and the father's harsh deeds, they went on teaching Prahlāda these ideals. But this Prahlāda went on teaching even the gurus the right qualities. Those gurus too changed their hearts and came to Hiraṇyakaśipu: O lord of the rākṣasas! This boy is no ordinary one. He is endowed with great power. It is not good for you to punish such a one.

When the demons struck him, the demon's son, again and again, ‘O You who lie on the serpent! O destroyer of demons! O Lord of the world! O refuge of the sorely distressed! O purifier of all!’ he praised; but he brought no tears to his eyes, nor was he shaken with fear.

Were they ordinary children, how much pain they would have to bear from these blows! But in him no such reactions are seen at all. He smiles, he skips and dances. Even when thrown into the fire, he joyfully goes on dwelling on the Name of Nārāyaṇa. Even when plunged into the sea, saying harināṃ, harināṃ, he makes his time worthwhile by the remembrance of the Name alone. Leaving the body aside, he is remembering …. One such child is enough.

When clouds gather in the sky and stir about, and the lightning shines close beside them, so behind learning Jñāna must shine forth.

When thick clouds of feelings cover the sky that is our heart, and the light that is the thought of God breaks into it, how much Śānti, how much radiance then comes forth through it! So our feelings must dwell on things in this way. Our heart itself is the sky. All our feeling is the clouds. Manas itself is the moon. Our Buddhi itself is the sun. But now and then clouds cover them thickly. In this sky of the heart. When thick clouds cover that sky, the sun and moon that are this Manas and Buddhi are hidden.
