In plain words
There has been no lack of political leaders or of patriots. But because there was no unity among them all, the country fell under foreign rule and had to suffer many troubles. Bhārata has won freedom but has not won unity. If the country today is not as it ought to be, what is the reason for this? A country is not just a separate form. A country is a gathering of people. What is man? The mind is the man. Manas depends on resolves. The joys and sorrows we experience in daily life are the fruit of our resolves. Only when people's actions are good does the country too reach a good state.
Man goes hundreds of thousands of miles into space, but he does not go even half an inch into the depths of his heart
Man must make the effort needed to develop his actions and his resolves into sacred ones. Today the world flourishes with technology. Its state has gone beyond any description of “it is like this, it is like that”. By this science man has gone on achieving a great many things. He has become able to travel even into space in a moment. He has gained the power to reduce the whole world to ashes in a single moment. He has brought the five elements into his grasp and plays with them. But is man able to buy any Śānti at all with this knowledge? Is he able to find safety? No. What is the reason? This technology is physical. It stays external. He travels hundreds of thousands of miles into space, but does he reach even half an inch into the depths of his heart? Humanness depends on the mind.
