Passage 10

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The villagers themselves supported the teachers. They gave learning free. And doctors, on seeing a sick man, gave medicines free. This is the ancient culture of Bhārata. From time without beginning, Bhārata has gone on doing such sacred works.

The day the selling of learning, food and medicine began in Bhārata, that very day the sacredness of Bhārata perished

From ancient times Bhārata gave spiritual wealth to all countries and kept bringing them lasting peace and security. Today the selling of meals, the selling of medicines and the selling of learning goes on. The day the selling of learning, the selling of food and the selling of medicines began in our Bhārata, that very day all the sacredness of Bhārata perished. Today, even when the father comes to the house, the son does not give him a meal. He sits in the veranda. The son eats and comes out. What kind of relationship is this? Where is our relationship? Heart to heart, love to love: this is the relationship of the people of Bhārata. Today there is none of it: hellow!, hellow! how are you? They say Hellow, hellow, but inside it is hollow. Even in that there is no steadiness. Even when our Bhārata came under English rule, in earlier times they brought the ancient culture into it. In olden days the word good bye had a fine ideal behind it. On seeing a little boy, they would call him “God boy”, “God boy”. This God boy changed into good boy. After some time good went, and God went too. They went on saying Boy. That boy went too, later on. Now it has become bye bye. What a low state, to come from God boy to bye bye! All are good boys.

This body is made to be the dwelling place of God. ‘Deho devālaya prokto jīvo devas sanātanaḥ’.
