In plain words
These five principles are the five life-breaths of man. If we cultivate Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema, Ahiṃsā becomes natural to us. We must have faith that the principle of Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema belongs to humanness alone. These four are not separate from one another. They are bound to one another, they are one in affection, and they are joined by a bond that cannot be broken. Here is a fine example. We live by the light of a lamp. But for this light a bulb is very necessary. Yet merely because the bulb is there, light does not come to us. It must have a wire connection. Merely having the wire connection is of no use. Current must flow in that wire. Only when the current flows through the wire and reaches the bulb do we enjoy the light. So Satya is the current, Dharma is the wire, Śānti is the bulb, and Prema is the light. It is by the oneness of these four that humanness stays alive.
Prema is God; God is Prema
Prema is man's very nature. Prema is man's divinity. Prema is God. Prema is everything. Without Prema man cannot live even for a moment. But only when that Prema is used along the right path does humanness reach its fulfilment. Prema is one, not two. People let it flow along many different paths. The Prema between mother and child we experience under the name ‘vātsalya’. The Prema between wife and husband we experience as ‘moha’. The Prema for all the objects in the world we experience as ‘icchāśakti’. The Prema between kinsmen and friends we think of as ‘anurāga’. Prema for God we call ‘Bhakti’. So Prema is one! Mysore pak, gulab jamun, barfi, palkova, sweetmeats, jalebi: however many you make, in all of them the sugar is one! Without sugar there is no gulab jamun, no barfi, no jalebi. Without Prema there would be no mother and child.
