Passage 10

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

He created everything. But He kept not one thing under His own control. He gave living beings complete freedom. “You may enjoy without hindrance of any kind,” He said. But one rule He did give: “For every action there will be another, a fitting reaction. Keep only this in view, and enjoy as you please,” He said. If, thinking, “God has given us freedom, has He not?”, we enter into bad deeds, the fruit of those bad deeds comes out bad. This is not what God gives; it is the reaction to your own action! God gives no one trouble or discomfort of any kind. Each and every thing that comes in this way is only the effect of your own intentions.

Prabhāva passes in a moment; svabhāva is eternal

Students! Falling under prabhāva, man is forgetting his own svabhāva. Prabhāva is the fruit of prārabdha. Svabhāva is the fruit of puruṣārtha. So we must recognise the difference that lies between svabhāva and prabhāva. Prabhāva passes in a moment; svabhāva is eternal. Today we are forgetting the svabhāva that is eternal, Satya and everlasting. We labour for prabhāvas that are passing, impermanent and temporary. There is no escaping the consequence of this. We must not use the creation God made just as we please, thinking, “He has given people freedom, has He not?” We must also take up some sacrifices to match it. Turn back once and consider the nature of the living beings in God's creation.

Only on the day man gives up selfishness can he experience Ānanda in life

God put sweet fruits on the tree. But does the tree enjoy those fruits?
