In plain words
What is the reason? Because the drops called Prema do not come together again in the oneness called good company, it falls into such a sorry state. Only a little of the rain, here and there, takes shape as good company. That is, it becomes one. They flow on as streams. But they fall into some tank or other. They do not reach the sea. Only the water that flows with a pure yearning, with pure Bhakti and prapatti, becomes one in God's grace. What has taken the form of Satya is one subject. The principle that flows as Prema is a subject too. What is turned into good company is a subject too. All these are subjects, like the physics, chemistry, botany and maths you study today. But all these go and fall into some tank or other and are swallowed up there; they do not go and join the sea. Only the Ānanda of one person, some fortunate one, someone with a pure heart, someone of complete faith, joins the ocean called God's grace.
Because spiritual feeling, moral conduct and inquiry into Dharma are wasting away in the institutions of learning, the world is given over to such turmoil
You hope to become worthy of Swami's grace, to come close to Swami, to receive Swami's compassion; but neither the effort nor the conduct that fits that hope is taking place. For each thing, you must follow the discipline that fits it. You know that. Knowing it, still to lead it down the wrong road can only be called want of Viveka, Ajñāna, Ahaṅkāra. Above all, because in the institutions of learning this spiritual feeling has wasted away, because moral conduct has wasted away. Because inquiry into Dharma is forgotten, the world has become the breeding ground of so many kinds of unrest and turmoil. When we go out into the world and look, how dreadful is the state of the institutions of learning!
