Passage 15

In plain words

The pessimist, looking at the ground, falls into unrest because it is dark.

Only for lack of high feelings does man fall into despair and dejection

So, do not look down. Develop great feelings. Only because there are no high feelings today does he fall into despair and dejection. What is the reason for this despair? Disappointment. We must understand this point properly. When does disappointment come? When you take an appointment, then disappointment is right beside it. So do not make an appointment beforehand. Do your own karma. Do your duty. With the appointment in view you fall into disappointment. So do not fix your sight on it. I must do my duty. Know: Duty is God, work is worship! These results, both of them, keep coming. What is the reason for both? Weakness of mind, feebleness of mind. He who has courage of mind achieves. The feeble of mind meets failure in everything. That is why they said, ‘Manayeva manuṣyānāṃ kāraṇaṃ bandhamokṣayoḥ.’ The mind itself is the root cause of it. Turn your mind towards God, and freedom from bondage comes. Bondage comes about only because you act with your sight set on Prakṛti. You have locked a door. You have put the key into that lock. Turn left side, it will open. Turn right side, it locks. Same lock, same key. But turning is difference. In the same way, your heart is a lock, mind is the key. Putting it in and turning it towards God is detachment. That is liberation. Turn it towards Prakṛti: that is bondage. So bondage and liberation lie within the outlook of our mind. Bondage did not come from somewhere. Liberation is not bought at a shop. No friend gives it as a gift. No company supplies it. Everything lies within your mind alone. So keep your mind well!
