In plain words
In the same way, one who follows Manas alone and lives to fulfil his desires through its thoughts and counter-thoughts is a demon. One who spurns body and Manas, keeps the Ātma alone as his goal and makes his humanness worthwhile is equal to God. So demonhood, beasthood and animality, all three, are contained within humanness itself. One who follows the body alone and lives seeking only the pleasures of the body and senses is equal to a beast. We may even say the beast is better. This beast at least has some kind of season and reason. But one who has taken human form and still seeks only the pleasure of these senses is, we may say, lower than a beast. One who leans only on Manas, with its thoughts and counter-thoughts, to fulfil his own desires is, we may say, a mere demon. But one who gives no thought at all to Manas and the senses, believes only in the principle of the Ātma and lives for the Ānanda of the Ātma is equal to God. The root cause of these three is the mother, the father and the guru alone! The root cause of good and bad, too, is these three alone! Those who lift one to the higher state are the parents themselves! Those who bring one down to the lower state are also the parents themselves!
Children go astray precisely because there are fathers like Dhṛtarāṣṭra
Parents today want only material advancement; they do not want the joy of the heart at all. ‘The moment the child is born we must educate him well; once he is educated we must send him abroad; once he is sent abroad he must come back with money stolen by the heap; by whatever means, he must earn money’: these base cravings for money are all that parents teach their children today. Earning money: even the beggars at the bus stand are doing that. If it is only a matter of earning money, even the Naxalites are earning money. Even those who beg are earning money. There is no need to go through so many kinds of toil to earn money.
