In plain words
On that day, if you shed streams of tears, who will wipe them away? Before you shed tears like that, you must purify your feelings. Only when you purify your heart will every attainment be yours.
The learning of the Ātma is far greater than all other learning
Students! You are pursuing your studies. In this physical life, learning too is needed! For this life, as passing as a bubble on water, these studies too are of some help. But you must not strut about thinking these worldly studies are what matters most. The learning of the Ātma is far greater than all other learning. ‘Nadīnāṃ sāgaro gatiḥ’: worldly studies are like little streams and channels. But God's grace is like the great ocean. All other kinds of learning merge into spiritual learning. So one who has no spiritual learning at all is just a beast of the forest! However much he may have learnt, he is still without learning!
Students! Talk with as many people as you like. But do not make friends with everyone. Today this very friendship is ruining man in many ways. They speak sweet words, but the heart is full of poison. Man has no eye that can see into that heart. You must not put your trust in anyone but God alone. You must bear hatred toward no one. Have no enmity toward anyone at all. Today students do not know this subtle point. They go on vaguely saying ‘Friends, friends’. These friends will not leave you until they have dragged you down to ruin. Any wound fades in a few days, but a wound to the heart does not heal even over birth after birth. Not everyone is a friend at all. With their own selfish interest and gain in view, they come close saying ‘Hello, hello.’ Talk with everyone, mix with everyone; but do not make friends!
