Passage 13

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

If you say, ‘I cannot do it, I cannot do it,’ and give up, you only become low. You make useless even the strength you have. If you strive to achieve it, you can achieve anything at all. Even with wings, if the eagle does not want to fly, it cannot go forward even an inch. If a little ant tries to walk, it walks for miles. So if we make the resolve to achieve, we can achieve anything. But in humanness, every now and then, this Ahaṅkāra enters. It is a great demoness. It is a very bad illness. It takes a long time for this disease to be cured. Today in the world, more than all other illnesses, the illness called Ahaṅkāra has gone beyond all bounds. So this Ahaṅkāra must go. There is no room at all for Ahaṅkāra. What are you looking at that makes you proud? At your wealth? How many are there not in this world who have more wealth than you? Or at your beauty? How many are there not in this world more beautiful than you? At your learning? How many are there not in this world who have studied more than you? Or at your qualities? How many are there not in this world with better qualities than you? What are you looking at that makes you proud? This is the great disease. The disease called Ajñāna. We must root out completely this thing called Ahaṅkāra. This body is only an instrument. ‘Śarīramādyaṃ khalu dharma sādhakaṃ.’ The body has come in order to practise Dharma. If you go on acting in this feeling, you will surely attain divinity. You will be able to come near to divinity.

Avatāras come only to teach the principle of Prema

Embodiments of Prema! We must experience this principle of Prema. If we experience Prema, there will be no such thing as hatred in the world. If there is no hatred at all, riots will never happen. How much violence is happening in the world? How many cruel deeds are happening? What is the cause of all this? The root cause of it is selfishness and Ahaṅkāra alone.
