In plain words

At every blow Mahalsāpati kept crying out, ‘Bābā, Bābā, Bābā’. Each time he said Bābā, all these blows fell on Bābā's back. After a while Mahalsāpati fell to the ground. Bābā came out. All the Muslims too had great faith in Bābā. Bābā came and roared, ‘Satan! Praying on one side, beating on the other: is this your Bhakti!’ ‘You worship on one side, and on the other you inflict torment,’ and as He said it, blood was pouring from all over Bābā's body. The Muslims saw it. ‘Bābā! Who struck You?’ they cried, and came running up in alarm. ‘Did you not strike? Did you not strike?’ and Bābā pointed at the very men. ‘Why, we never even came near You! We struck only Mahalsāpati,’ they said. Then Bābā: ‘Who is in Mahalsāpati? It is I who am there. He is one who has made Śaraṇāgati to Me. So all his pains are Mine!’ He said. Then all those Muslims held Bābā's feet and prayed to be forgiven. Then Bābā brought the Muslims and the Hindus, both, together and taught them, ‘Dear ones! You are children of one mother; stay so.’ The teaching spoken of today as Brotherhood of man and fatherhood of God, Bābā proved in His own practice. ‘One must not hold on to petty distinctions of caste and creed’: in this way Bābā taught.

“For humanness, the heart alone is what matters. One who searches in religion will not see Mādhava. Search in the mind. When you search in the mind, you will see Mādhava. All these castes and religions belong to the body alone! All these belong to Prakṛti! So seek God in the mind that belongs to the Supreme Principle.” In this way, from then on, Bābā's life went by. Bābā, who had come back the second time with Chāndbhāī Patel's family, did not leave Shirdi again until 1918, that is, until He attained samādhi. In all, Bābā lived eighty years. One day a scholar came and wished, ‘Bābā's life story must be written.’
