Passage 10

In plain words

Not all that is said is Satya. What is said in the oneness of these three is Satya. What is said without the three being one is not Satya. It is untruth! To follow that Satya, they said, is Dharma. ‘Satyaṃ nāsti parodharmaḥ’: the mansion of Dharma must be built only on the foundation of Satya. If this foundation itself is not secure, the mansion of Dharma cannot stand. How can this mansion, which is like a bubble on water, have any steadiness? The mansion of life built on this bubble of water is the mansion of saṅkalpa. That mansion of saṅkalpa must turn into a mansion of will. Only when we turn that power of will into the power of action do we gain the power of Jñāna. Only when we bring the two together, the power of will and the power of action, does the power of Jñāna arise in us. The power of will is ‘water’. The power of action is ‘sugar’. When we ‘mix’ these two, we get the power of Jñāna, the ‘syrup’. Only when this Jñāna arises is Kaivalya attained. ‘Jñānādevatu kaivalyaṃ.’ In what are called the Navarātri pūjās, there is Durgā, there is Sarasvatī. There is Lakṣmī; if we set it up this way, that Lakṣmī is Viṣṇu's wife, Durgā is Śaṅkara's wife and Sarasvatī is Brahmā's wife, all our thoughts come out only in the way of Prakṛti. All powers are within this.

The five elements are the same for all!

The whole universe is only the many forms of Viṣṇu! All things are forms of Viṣṇu! We must have faith in this oneness. However many ornaments there are, the gold is one! However many cows there are, the colour of the milk is one! However many countries there are, the earth is one! However many stars there are, the sky is one! However many people come here, their breathing, that is, the breath, is one. Beings are many, but breath is one. We must recognise this oneness. There is no one air for me, another air for him and yet another for you. There is one air for all! The five elements are the same for all! These five elements belong to Prakṛti! In the supreme principle there are no elements at all. They are avadhūtas. If we are to reach the state of the avadhūta, we must escape Yama's messengers. How can we escape?
