In plain words

Only when we master Prakṛti can we attain the supreme principle too. What does the principle of Prakṛti mean? The principle of Prakṛti is to master the five elements.

We must develop spirituality from our student days

Today scientists want to take the five elements into their hands and play with them. But they themselves do not follow the five elements. What use is it to hold these five elements in your hands? Today man's feelings are going beyond all bounds. Hiraṇyakaśipu was a very great scientist. He mastered everything. But he could not conquer his own senses. That is why his son Prahlāda, a small boy, ‘You conquered all the worlds in an instant. You cannot conquer the host of the senses and the citta,’ he said. ‘You hold the five elements all in your hand. But your own senses you cannot subdue. Fie! Fie! You are no king at all,’ he said. So only the one who has subdued his senses is a king. First of all, we must keep cooling down, to some extent, all these passions and excitements that come and rise up in us. We should not let loose as we please all the feelings that come up in us. We must keep putting brakes on them now and then. In this matter we must go a little slow from the start. This is what they said: Start early, drive slowly, reach safely. ‘Why does he need all this Bhakti and śraddhā now! After retiring, in old age, we can do our sādhana then if need be’: if you think so, that is not right. It amounts to starting very late. What happens from starting late? We set out wanting to go at speed. The moment it goes at speed, there is an accident! That is why: start early, drive slowly; only then will you reach safely. This is very good. We must develop this spirituality in us at this very age. As Chavan said, the students have very good qualities and very good habits.
