Passage 17

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

It is not enough that this is so while you are in school, in this Institute. Even after you go into the outer world, you must keep these good qualities in practice.

Wherever you go, all must live together in harmony

Here there are Christians, there are Muslims, there are Hindus. There are people of many religions. Just as everyone here lives in unity, that is, in harmony, and just as everyone here cooperates with one another in every matter, so this cooperation must continue when you go outside. If it becomes ‘co-operation only here, operation when we go outside’, it is of no use. Wherever you go, all of you must stay together in harmony. The day we proclaim this kind of divinity to the world, that very day we will have uplifted the nation. There will be no quarrels at all in this world. So recognise the oneness that is in all. In all, the five elements are the same! The quantity may differ, but the quality is one! We need only the quality! The Gaṅgā flows in plenty. When we are thirsty, a glass of water is enough; our thirst is quenched. You cannot drink the whole Gaṅgā. That is greed! Take the quality; do not set your thoughts on the quantity. That is the kind of learning we must learn. Only then does equanimity come about. ‘Samatvaṃ yogamucyate.’ That is the great yoga. When we grow that yoga, there will be no diseases of quarrel of any kind in this world. Purify the air with the Name of God, root out all the smoke, protect the ozone layer, give oxygen to everyone, and with ‘Lokāḥ samastā ssukhino bhavantu,’ wish that all may be happy.
