In plain words
Only when there is purity of citta and the wealth of character will noble men and women grow in society. Only when the foundations of morality are firm are people with purity of citta and the wealth of character nurtured. All this morality and honesty rests on spiritual awakening. Spiritual awakening is the sacred path that leads man to a higher state. Spirituality alone shapes one into a higher man! Spirituality alone brings the country its prosperity! Spirituality brings peace to the world. Spirituality alone brings the welfare of mankind!
Education must be used for the good of the country
Forgetting the principle of spirituality today and putting his faith in the worldly, man has rooted out humanness in himself and leads a merely artificial life. Merely by studying a great deal, people cannot become educated. We must use this learning for the good of the country. Setting self-interest and selfish gain aside a little, we must put this education to use for the good of the world. For the mind to be fixed on the path that brings this good, noble qualities must grow in the student. Only in a student with noble qualities do love of country and love of society grow. Satya is the one ornament of the throat. Learning is the ornament of the ear. Why do we need ornaments other than these? Only the man who has these ornaments can become a complete man. Today, merely by studying worldly learning, man thinks himself a great jñānī and struts about in pride. However much learning Rāma acquired, Rāvaṇa acquired still more. But Vālmīki called Rāvaṇa ‘a fool’. Rāma he described as ‘a complete man’. We must recognise the difference between this complete humanness and foolishness. Rāma used all the learning He had acquired for the good and the progress of the world, for the welfare of the world. He mastered His senses. He gave up the royal power that had fallen to Him.
