When one follows Manas, the animal nature. Following all three, Manas, the body and the Ātma, is the human nature. Following the Ātma alone is God. So in the human nature there are the demon's nature, the animal nature and divinity. So what is meant by spirituality? We must put away the animal nature in man. We must put away bad qualities. We must put away wicked resolves. We must put away bad feelings. We must turn the human nature in it towards divinity. Whatever you do, regard it all as God's work! Then work will be transformed into worship. Go to your office. Do your work. Do your business. Do your tasks. But offer all these to God. That is true self-offering. How does one come to this level? We took butter from milk. Where did this butter come from? It came from the milk. Where in the milk is this butter? Butter is everywhere in the milk. There is not a single drop of milk without butter. So this butter is everywhere in the milk. But when you make it into curd and churn it well, this butter that was everywhere gathers in a single place. Though God is everywhere, in the vessel called the body, within the milk called Manas, there is the fine butter called divinity. But if you churn this Manas well with the Buddhi, the butter that was everywhere gathers in one place. But some water stays mixed in this butter. This butter is not so pure. What is the reason? Because there is the pride that says ‘I am the body’, the water called attachment to the body has got into it. Then when that butter too is refined well, when it is refined in the fire, little by little all this water turns into vapour. At the time that water turns into vapour, a bad smell comes. What does that mean? It means that all those bad qualities are going. As the butter is heated, all the water in it goes away. After this water has gone, that butter becomes ghee. A sweet fragrance comes. As long as this water is there, there is a bad smell. Once all this water has completely left the butter, it is made into something pure, fine ghee. A good smell comes.
