Passage 4

In plain words

You see! Every jīva is none other than God, shining in the form of the Ātma! Every human being is none other than the embodiment of God! Forms and names may differ. But when can you say that all forms are God? This one thing alone looks very hard. But there is nothing else as easy. If you live with one hundred per cent faith in yourself, it becomes known to you. What is this one hundred per cent? What is the measuring rod for it? How can you tell 100, 50 or 25 per cent? A fine example for this. In hardships, in pleasures, in gain, in loss, in sorrow, in grief, in pain, in joy, at all times, faith must be deep and firm. Today, if a little hardship comes, faith lessens a little. If some comfort comes, he goes beyond all bounds. He forgets God. So, ‘Sukhaduḥkhe samekṛtvā lābhālābhau jayāpajayāt’: in both of these there must be equanimity. Only when there is this equanimity does perfect, 100 per cent faith become known. This is the measuring rod to see it by!

Spirituality is putting away the animal nature in man and turning the human nature towards God

People keep saying ‘spirituality, spirituality’. A few minutes ago our Anil Kumar spoke of some special meaning of this spirituality. Spirituality has no other meaning. Spirituality is putting away the animal nature in man and transforming the human nature into divinity. In man there are three: the animal nature, divinity and the human nature. When one abides in the Ātma alone as the aim, that is divinity. Then, when the nature of these three, the Ātma, Manas and the body, comes together, this is human nature. But when there is Manas alone, this is the animal nature. When one follows the body alone, it becomes the nature of a demon.
