In plain words
So, in whatever hardships, losses, sorrows or griefs, however many things you forget, you must not forget the thought of God. All these are only passing clouds! But your heart is always lasting. Pursue your studies. First of all, keep in view what is meant by ‘lokahite rataḥ’. We must keep the good of the world and the thought of the world in mind. We must wish for the welfare of the world. We must hope for the progress of society. We must take part in service.
It is because we expect much and give little that Bhārata is becoming a poor country
How should we use the learning we have gained? It is not to go to an office, do the work they tell you there, take a monthly salary and in that way misuse your studies. You are selling your learning. To sell one's learning is a great sin. One may take a job for daily living. We must give the work that is due for it. How much salary are we taking, how much work are we doing? There too, discrimination is needed. To take salaries of thousands upon thousands and go off without doing even a hundred rupees' worth of work: such people have betrayed the country itself. Such traitors to the country are spreading through the world. We expect much and give little. That is why Bhārata is turning into a poor country. It is borrowing money from country after country to pay the salaries of its employees. Who is the cause of this? You yourselves are the cause of it. If all employees did the work that is due, the country would not be in such poverty. This must be regarded as nothing less than treachery to the country. Only when that feeling is in you will you do well. But ‘What do I care what happens to the country? I want a big salary, my salary must come’: with that, they sit in an AC room and sleep. Are we doing any work at all? You must do your work with your own conscience looking on. That itself is your inner satisfaction. In this matter our students must show a fine example. Take your salary; there is nothing wrong in that. But you must do the work that is due for the salary.
