Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

God is the root cause of creation, sustenance and dissolution

Three guṇas, the form of three leaves, three eyes and three weapons, the destroyer of the sins of three births: one bilva leaf offered to Śiva.

It is this: to see these three guṇas as one and offer them to Śiva. What does Śiva mean? An auspicious state. Only when one makes this principle of the Trimūrti one does auspiciousness arise in humanness. In the field of politics there are many kinds of departments. There are the health department, the education department and the finance department. In the same way there are many departments on the spiritual path too. They are creation, sustenance and dissolution. The creation department has a head. The department of nurture has its head, and what has to do with dissolution has a head. Each one is like the head of one department. But each of them must keep looking after only his own department, in the proper way. Over all of them, by the oneness of these three, there is one ruler. Call him the Prime Minister, call him the Chief Minister. His name is GOD. He holds the joining of these three in his hand. This is what they called GOD. This is what they called ‘Allah’. Keeping such changes in view, they went on giving God many forms and names. Divinity is the root cause of creation, sustenance and dissolution. This is what in English they called GOD. G: Generation, O: Organisation, D: Destruction. It is by the oneness of these three that they said GOD. Men cannot understand this divinity. This G, Generation, means bringing about creation. O, Organisation, means protecting. D, Destruction, means taking back into oneself in dissolution.

Infinite powers lie within man

Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Maheśvara are powers that lie within man! If this is to be understood, the spiritual principle is most necessary. Spirituality does not mean loneliness or a solitary life. Keeping far from the attachments and hatreds of the mind, one must hold the whole of mankind together as one, whole and complete.
