Passage 7

In plain words

They earned their money by labour. ‘Only when the arms work does the belly get fed’: so they worked hard. But today there are many very easy ways to make money. There are as many schools and colleges as one could want for gaining learning. There are hospitals in every street. We have no shortage of anything. But there is one single shortage: faith in God is vanishing. That is the shortage; without it, what use is anything? Without faith in God, whatever else there may be is of no use. So we must make our faith in God grow beyond measure. Our girl students and boy students must nourish this culture that has come down from ancient times.

The cause of all conflicts is the lack of faith in God!

The boys and girls are the true heirs of our culture. We must take hold of this heritage and make it our own. It must enter every field in the world and nourish spiritual thought. Today they are fighting over what does not matter and losing their lives. Passions are running too high. Zeal is waning. Humanness is sinking to the bottom. Demonic nature is growing. This is not what the youth of today should have. We must bind ourselves by a vow to uphold the culture of our country, the culture of our motherland, and the Divinity of humanness. All must work together in unity. Spiritual spreading and teaching must take place on a great scale. We must make firm the feeling that what is in all is the one Ātma. If we recognise this truth, there can be no conflicts in the world. Today, wherever we look, there is conflict. Conflict in the home, conflict in the street, conflict in the village, conflict in the country. Wherever we look, it is fighting! Suppose there is no one else in the house, only husband and wife: there is conflict even between the two of them. If one says yes, the other says no. What is the cause of these twisted and mean feelings? The root cause is the lack of faith in God. Ahaṅkāra is the root cause. Envy is the root cause. Ostentation is the root cause.
