In plain words

His parents told him to go to school. The boy asked, ‘What for?’ His parents said, ‘It is when you have education, isn't it, that you live without any want of food and clothing.’ ‘Mother! Forgive me. Even dogs fill their bellies. What schooling did they have? Monkeys, when hungry, somehow fill their bellies. What studies did they study? Ants, birds, all living creatures fill their bellies. Must one study to fill one's belly?’ he asked. So, if it is for the belly, education is not needed. The belly is a basket. Like a rubbish bin, whatever is thrown in falls into that belly. ‘For the sake of a belly like this rubbish bin, am I to pour away my strength, my Divinity? I do not want it’, he said. He was going somewhere or other. A little boy. But because his radiance was pure and full, it shone as the great radiance of Brahman. He was not asking anyone. The radiance itself provided everything. On the way some mother or other, ‘My boy! I will give you food!’ she would call, and she would feed him. Who was having this food given to him? The pure heart itself was having it given. That sacred Prema itself was bringing it about. Wherever he went, it was only ‘I am God, I am God. Anal Haq. That is, I myself am God’, so he kept saying. That same, in the Śāstras of Bhārata, is ‘Ahaṃ brahmāsmi’, ‘Sohaṃ’: I myself am that Brahman. In this way the boy went on uttering it. These words seemed a joke to many. All the elders reproached him. ‘Boy! You call yourself God; how are you God?’ they kept asking. Fools are always ready to argue. Though there is not the least knowledge in them, they get ready for argument. Such fools are growing many in this Kali Yuga. He had his faith. With the faith that he himself was God, ‘If you do not have it, go! Leave it at that; why should you spoil my faith?’ he asked them. Those around him who could not believe this, ‘How can you become God? Why do you say you are God?’ they asked in turn. ‘It is because I am God that I say I am God. Just as current enters into all the bulbs, in the same way God enters into all bodies. Some misuse that light.
