Passage 4

In plain words

We have been putting this in three words. Prīti, bhīti, nīti. Prīti: love of God. When there is this love of God, Śānti and Satya, these two, arise in us. Bhīti: fear of sin. When there is this fear of sin, Prema comes. Not only does Prema come; there is calm as well. Nīti: morality in society. In this morality in society, Ahiṃsā arises. If we nurture this one thing, prīti, then Śānti, Dharma and Ahiṃsā, these three, follow it. One who has prīti takes no part in violence. One who has bhīti does not enter into adharma. One who has nīti stays calm. So prīti is equal in all. It is equal to life. We think of man's values as Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema. All these are contained in the one prīti alone. This Prema keeps turning toward God alone. Prema is like a compass. Wherever you set a compass, it points to the north alone. In the same way, wherever prīti comes from, it goes toward God alone. The compass called prīti is a special grace given to man. The foremost human value is prīti itself. That very Prema must be in every man. The Veda taught the principle that God is in all beings. Īśvaraḥ sarvabhūtānām. Who is Īśvara? Prema itself is Īśvara. Īśvara is Prema. God dwells in everyone. On this basis alone: LOVE IS GOD. LIVE IN LOVE.

At the time Jesus was born, three Arabian kings arrived. The first king saw this child. ‘He looks like a child of God,’ he said. The second one looked. No. No. ‘He will grow into one who loves God,’ he said. The third king said, ‘He is not God's child, nor is it loving: he is God himself.’ The one you think you are. That is what was said first. In the divine there are three kinds of principle. I am God's messenger. ‘I am the messenger of God,’ he said. Then, I am the son of God. Then he said, ‘I and My father are one.’ That is The one you think you are. That is physical. Taking his body as the basis, he thinks he is such-and-such a messenger. The one others think you are. That is, the principle of your mind. Third, The one you really are. That is, the form of the Ātma.
