Passage 5

In plain words

The whole world is right within us. Divinity is right within us. Demonic nature is right within us. Humanness is right within us. Animal nature too is right within us.

Our resolves alone are the root and base of everything. So we must develop good resolves. Where do good resolves come from? Good resolves come to us through Buddhi. If one speaks without it, people call him lacking in Buddhi. One without Buddhi is a beast. One who has Buddhi has purity of thought, word and deed. We must not call him a man of intellect. Those are all words of the natural world. Words that belong to the business of the world. It is beyond all of these; within God's law they carry out their duty to the letter. For all of them, the principle of the one Ātma is the one ideal. The body itself is the right example. How? The mind has resolved. That it must go there. Holding to this resolve, the feet move and go there; the feet move by resolves. Then, merely by resolving to do that work, the hands join in it and work. The moment I resolve, 'I must see so-and-so', the eyes see him. The moment one resolves to listen to the tape recorder, the ear listens to the tape recorder. When one resolves to eat, at once the mouth eats. Hands, legs, eyes, mouth, all go along, relying only on the resolves. They carry out their own duties. The ear that hears does not try to speak. The mouth that speaks does not try in the least to hear. The mouth that speaks does only the work of speaking. The ears only listen. When they stray from the path without carrying out their own duties, life itself goes to waste. Once upon a time the other senses tried to go contrary. 'With so much toil we earn sweet things, and the mouth alone eats them. Why does it not give to us? We earn, and the mouth eats! The jewels are one person's, the show is another's,' it said, so the story goes. All of them brought their own work to a standstill. What happened? The body itself wasted away. Teaching each limb in this body its own function, God commanded that through it they must carry out their own duties to the letter.

Today in the world the senses in the body keep to their own duties, but the mind of man does not keep to its own duty.
